The corporation announced Monday that it will launch Mobile Express Returns, a feature on the Walmart app that allows consumers to return items they don't want. The return is initiated on the app, and completed in-store via the mobile express lane and a QR code scan.

"Refunds will be credited to customers’ payment account as soon as the next day, and they will no longer have to send off their product and wait days for an online return to be credited," the organization explained in a press release.

However, Walmart also said that in December, the app will offer a feature enabling consumers to receive a refund without physically going to a store. Although the initial launch only applies to items purchased on Walmart.com, the offering will extend to purchases made in Walmart stores beginning in 2018.

This offer will initially be available on select household items, such as shampoo and color cosmetics, with other items to be added over time. This reportedly applies to items that the store would have thrown out upon return anyway, like damaged bottles of shampoo.

“We know that returning an item and waiting for a refund, especially for a product purchased online, isn’t always seamless, so we’ve completely transformed the process for our customers – whether they are shopping in stores or at Walmart.com,” senior vice president of Walmart services and digital acceleration Daniel Eckert said in a statement explaining the launch.
