Jobless man faces break-in, theft of church’s N250, 000 cables charge
A 24-year-old unemployed man, Benjamin Akegh, who allegedly stole a church’s cables valued at N250,000, was on Monday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Akegh, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of theft, a contravention of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
He, however, pleaded innocence of the offence.
But the Prosecutor, ASP Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 20 in the premises of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Nation Parish in Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
He said the accused entered the church premises and stole rolls of electric cables valued at N250,000.
According to him, the accused was caught while stealing the cables by a security guard in the church.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
Ruling on the accused’s bail application, Magistrate F. O. Ikobayo granted him a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 8 for mention.
